The focus is on Jesus!

Editor's Thoughts:

Egypt Is Not Just Where Israel Was

The story of the Exodus is one of the most famous stories in history. It is the story of God bringing Israel out of slavery in Egypt through Moses. But it is also much more than ancient history. It is a living picture of what God still wants to do for people today.

Egypt is not just where Israel was. Egypt is where many people still are.

Not trapped by brick-making and whips, but by habits they cannot break. By fear that controls them. By guilt that follows them. By anger that burns them. By shame that defines them. By addiction that masters them. By emptiness they cannot explain.

Many people look free on the outside while living in bondage within.

That is why the Exodus story still matters.

God Hears the Cry of the Bound

Israel cried out under oppression, and God heard them. He raised up Moses to bring them out.

God still hears cries that no one else hears.

The cry of the person smiling in public but falling apart in private.
The cry of the person trapped in secret sin.
The cry of the one who cannot sleep because regret will not leave.
The cry of the one who wonders if change is even possible anymore.

God is still in the business of deliverance.

“So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.” John 8:36 (NLT)

It Is Never Too Late

Moses was 80 years old when God called him to lead Israel out of Egypt. Before that, he had known failure, loss, delay, and forty years in the wilderness.

Many people believe their best years are behind them.

But God often works differently than we do.

What feels like wasted time may have been training.
What felt like silence may have been preparation.
What looked like the end may be the beginning.

You may think life has passed you by. God may think your real usefulness is just starting.

Sometimes It Gets Worse Before It Gets Better

When Moses obeyed God, Pharaoh did not surrender immediately. Resistance increased. Pressure intensified. The people became discouraged.

That still happens now.

When someone decides to leave destructive patterns, the struggle often gets harder first.

When someone begins seeking truth, confusion may increase first.

When someone chooses obedience, temptation may grow stronger first.

Do not mistake resistance for failure.

Sometimes the chains rattle loudest right before they break.

“The Lord Himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.” Exodus 14:14 (NLT)

The Real Meaning of Passover

The Exodus was not merely about escaping a nation. It was about salvation through trust in God.

On Passover night, a lamb died. Blood was placed over the doorway. Judgment passed over those who believed and obeyed.

That event pointed forward to Jesus.

Many people think salvation is earned by becoming good enough. But Scripture teaches something better: rescue comes through trusting the One who gave Himself for us.

“The blood of Jesus, His Son, cleanses us from all sin.” 1 John 1:7 (NLT)

We are not saved by perfection. We are saved by grace.

Many Leave Egypt But Egypt Does Not Leave Them

Israel came through the Red Sea. Their chains were gone. Their masters were gone. Yet fear, complaining, and unbelief still followed them into the wilderness.

This happens today.

A person may leave addiction but still think like a slave.
A person may leave toxic relationships but still live in fear.
A person may be forgiven yet still live under shame.

Freedom is not only changing location.
Freedom is learning to trust God with the heart.

God did not just want Israel out of Egypt. He wanted Egypt out of Israel.

And He wants the same for us.

Even Good People Need Changed Hearts

Moses was a great man, yet even he lost his temper and struck the rock when God had told him to speak to it. That one moment carried serious consequences.

This reminds us that our greatest problem is not merely external circumstances.

The real battle is within.

Anger. Pride. Impatience. Self-rule. Distrust.

We do not just need better surroundings. We need new hearts.

“Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10 (NLT)

God Often Has Better Plans Than We Do

Moses was not allowed to enter the earthly Promised Land. That seemed heartbreaking at the time. But later he appeared alive with Jesus on the mountain, having been raised by God.

God had something better than Canaan.

Many people mourn closed doors, unanswered prayers, and disappointed plans.

But sometimes what feels denied is being replaced.

God sees farther than we do.
God plans higher than we do.
God loves deeper than we understand.

“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9 (NLT)

The Exodus Is Your Story Too

This ancient story is not only about Israel.

It is about every person who needs freedom.
Every person who needs forgiveness.
Every person who needs direction.
Every person who needs a new beginning.

The same God who led people through the sea still leads people through impossible places.

The same God who broke chains still breaks chains.

The same God who loved them still loves you.

To know God is to love Him.
And to love Him… is to live differently.
