"For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.”
"And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them."
Isaiah 65:21 & 22 tells us that we will be building our own house someday. Evidently, even though we will be given a place to live that Jesus Himself has built for us in the Holy City (John 14:2), we will also have a second home in the country. You and I will each build our own homes and gardens exactly like we want them to be.
This brings up the question of where would you build your second home, and what would it look like? To help you start thinking along these lines, think about your favorite place here on earth. Where do you enjoy spending the most time at? When you have a chance to go on vacation (or if you could) where would you go? Do you want a place that is quite and peaceful, or do you prefer a place that is full of activity and sounds? Do you go for the views, the chance to be with friends, or both?
At one time my daughter wanted to build a glass house (dome?) under a lake so she could watch the otters, turtles and fish play. My dad years ago told me that he wanted a glass floor with a rose garden below it.
A friend years ago said that she loved the beach, snorkeling in the clear waters and watching life below the waves. Then she said, “But I also like waterfalls.” So why couldn’t she build a house near, or even over, a waterfall that was falling into the sea?
When I try to pick out just one type of place I would love to live I can’t seem to put my finger on it. I love life and everything God has given us already! I love just sitting by a lake or stream in peace and quiet, but I also love being around happy, busy people. Maybe that is why Jesus is planning on more than one place for each of us to live? You could have a quiet little tree house like the one shown, with suspended swinging bed below the house. Plus, in addition to the country home, you will have a huge city mansion!
