Lost & Found, Keys

Lost and Found, Keys

We were visiting with our niece, Jackie, in Georgia. One morning when it was time to go to church, Jackie couldn’t find her ring of keys. All of her family, plus my wife and I, got involved in the search.

Eventually we had to give up the search because we were already late for church. The whole set of keys seemed to have just disappeared. We all piled into our van and made it to church even though we were late. Throughout the afternoon after church and into the evening I suggested several times that we needed to get everyone together and pray for God’s help in finding the keys. But no one seemed to be interested in taking time to pray. Everyone was just too busy searching the same places over and over again and trying to think of new places to look.

Finally the next morning, after we had all been searching through the house, garage, and car, I called together two of Jackie’s small children, Jeremy and Jessica and a young boy who was visiting. We knelt down right there on the garage floor turning the whole thing over to God. We said, “We know You know where these keys are and it is no big deal for You to find them for us. So, Lord please helps us find the keys, or find them for us. We have looked everywhere we know to look but can’t find them. Please, Lord the family needs these keys. The car key itself is special and will cost more than $100 to get a replacement. You know they can’t afford that cost. So Lord we plead with you to help us. We thank You for hearing and answering our prayers. Amen.”

We resumed our search one more time, but with the same results, no keys. But God had not forgotten us and our prayer request. He prompted Jackie’s friend Cindy, who lived several miles away, to look in her car for the keys one more time because Jackie had been in her car two days before. Cindy had already searched her car thoroughly once, but within less than half an hour from the time we prayed, Cindy called to tell Jackie she had found the keys in the glove box of her car. How on earth did they get there? Cindy had already looked there. No one really knows how the keys got in there, but that really does not matter. God had answered our prayer!

The Bible tells us that nothing is too hard for God. So why are we sometime so slow to ask Him to do things for us? I guess we are all inclined to want to exhaust all our resources before we admit that we can’t do it, before we take it to God and ask for His help. But really, He is more anxious to do good things for each of us than are our earthly parents.

“For with God nothing shall be impossible.” Luke 1:37
“Is any thing too hard for the LORD?” Genesis 18:14
“Men ought always to pray....” Luke 18:1
“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” Philippians 4:6
“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.” Matthew 7:7
