Better Than a Dream

When my wife and I moved into the apartment I just told of in the last story we had no idea of what lay ahead. We just knew that we were where the Lord wanted us to be.

I found a job working late into the night and typically returned home after midnight. This allowed me to help my wife at the school a little in the mornings. Later, I found that these late hours also worked very well for me to work on what the Lord had in mind and I spent several uninterrupted hours very early each morning working for Him.

After living there for just a few weeks I was showing my pastor a paper timeline that I had drawn in pen. I told him that I would love to be able to draw something like it on the computer and put it onto a CD so that others could use it for Bible Studies. I told him that I had a dream of a timeline that when you clicked on an event more information would be made available to you, thus keeping the timeline fairly simple. I told him that I had no idea how to do something like that and was just dreaming, but that I was also looking for a way to do it. (This “dream” must have come from the Lord because I know that I could not have come up with the idea myself. I believe that He gave me this deep desire to see this idea happen.)

This pastor happened to be very computer literate and suggested that it would be very easy to do, but instead of placing the timeline on a CD he suggested, “Why not put it on the Internet?” I had never thought of that before. But how would I ever learn enough to do something like that and where could I ever get web space that I could afford? I had no money and absolutely no knowledge of how to build a web page, much less how to build a whole site. But he gave me web space for this new idea on the local church web site (at no cost to me) and then he showed me how to build a web page and how to create links. After building two timelines I found that I needed more timelines to display more information. He told me how to find even more information in specific books and how to add this new information to the site.

The Lord knew my desire to bring this information to you because He had put it in my heart, and He made it happen.  Today, Bible Timelines Online (Now BibleTimelines.com) contains over 20 timelines, over 50 short non-timeline articles, 10 complete Bible reference books (they make a great Bible Commentary) and over a dozen short videos. Many people from around the world have viewed BibleTimelines.com and, praise the Lord, the number of hits to the site keeps increasing rapidly. Who would have thought that God could use someone with very little computer knowledge in this way? I’m certainly not that smart, and it’s very obvious that this was all His doing!
