God's Still Small Voice

God’s Still Small Voice

We were returning to our home in Jacksonville, Florida from a visit with my parents and others at Daytona Beach. It was around midnight and we were only a few miles from home. The voice said; “Even though you are on a freeway, you need to move into the right lane.” I responded immediately by moving to the right of the two lanes.

Immediately, it must not have been more than five seconds, I met a speeding car going the wrong way in the lane I had just moved from. We were both traveling at freeway speeds, which means that if we had collided, no survivors could have been expected. A short time after we met, and just a short distance behind us, there was a terrible crash when the car collided head on with an eighteen wheeler. We were saddened later to learn the news of the loss of life in this accident.

How thankful I was and am that God’s Spirit spoke and I responded immediately and positively to His voice. How I wish I could say that I have always responded immediately and positively to God’s Spirit.

This incident serves to make me aware of just how vitally important it is to respond positively and quickly to God’s Spirit for the present and future of other people. You see, God not only saved my life that night, but the lives of my wife and two sons who were with me. I have had the great privilege of seeing my sons grow from childhood to manhood and have families of their own.

What an awesome responsibility rests upon each of us to seek to know and follow God. We each need to spend quality time with God daily reading and studying His Word and talking with Him in prayer. As we learn His promises we can claim them as His promises direct to us.

“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Thee; because he trusteth in Thee.” Isaiah 26:3
“The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear Him and deliverer them.” Psalms 34:7
“I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in Him will I trust.” Psalms 91:2
